Artist's Description

A male Western Bowerbird (Chlamydera guttata) stands guard in front of his bower (the sticks in the background) with his collection of fine white objects in the foreground. Bowerbirds collect items of a particular colour with which to impress the girls. Therefore they spend much of their time stealing these objects from rival males. After all, if they can command a collection as fine as this they must have good genes, mustn’t they? Olive Pink Botanic Gardens, Alice Springs, Northern Territory, Australia.
