Artist's Description

Acrylic portrait of our daughter.

The story behind this painting

When our daughter was in college, she was studying artists and art in connection with her education course that had a minor in art. I painted this twist on a famous Van Gogh painting called “Absinthe” for her as a birthday gift. Absinthe is a drink made from the wormwood plant, artemisia. She and I use to go to the river beach near our home in the Cascade mountains of Washington. There on the beach grew fragrant artemisia which we both came to love and associate with our precious time together there. The drink on the table being made from artemisia represents that love. We were surprised at gift time when she exclaimed that she was assigned a lesson she would soon be doing, where she was required to create something using a famous artist’s style and mediums.
