High Hopes. Higer Odds

Several times a week
Half the country hopes high
Tickets in hand, anvil in stomachs
Supported with optimistic superstitions
The foolish get rich quick strategy
Supposedly luck comes in trifectars
A gratuitous gamble for change
Anticipating naively that out of 42 balls
The lucky seven you need, fall into place
Desiring above all to be rid of
All the responsibilities and hardships
That is a product of
Today’s impossibly high standard of living
Telling yourself that with such wealth
You’d never sever your roots
Pretending that with this affirmation
Fate should be on your side
Even though the desired jackpot
Is only desired to cease the current rut
That motivates you to win big in the first place

Artist's Description

Lotteries may offer the oppertunity to leave a life of hard knocks and life lessons, but how much does the desire to be free of responcibility affect the way we aim for things later on in life? Too many people daydream with what they could do with a 1 in 800,000,000 chance lottery. How does it affect the way we view happiness? More importantly how does it affect the way we view our real goals?
