Mallee

Twisted mallee trees contorting into shapes,
Which even the most versatile bonsai would sprain
Grappling to the ancient soil deeply rooted
Intimidating is their survival in such foreboding terrain
Sustaining the whole biodiversity
In ways too advanced for science
Keeping their secrets homeogenically
Defiantly staying put now,
And long after foreign influence,
Has left their carbon footprint
Prevailing in time to regenerate, patiently

Mallee

Artist's Description

I went to the Gawler Ranges last year on a conservation project. I stayed on this station 106km from the nearest town, it was a really surreal experience. The vast solitude really makes you develop an appreciation for nature and the enviroment. Maybe with a little more exposure I could come to respect nature and understand how the circle of life truly balances out as a biodiversity. We as humans are really not intune with the earth and what it really means to be alive. I hope to one day gain a greater understanding .This poem is a step closer there.
