afterlife (sonnet-Shakespearean rhyme scheme)

We all have a life, some short, others long,
and death awaits all, none can evade it,
but will death truly end our enduring song,
or will our existence be eternally writ?

Could there possibly be a life after death,
or is the mere thought a senseless hope?
Our corpse will forever be covered by a sheath,
but could our soul persist, as if a never-ending rope?

There is not one that can answer this question,
except for perhaps a potential higher being,
but even if there’s a God that forgives sin,
he would not entrust us with the knowledge of seeing.

This question will be answered, all too nigh,
but not while we’re living, only after we die.

I wrote this sonnet for my creative writing class. We could write on anything, and this just sort of came to me. Please tell me how i could have made it better, and if you like it. You’re also welcome to criticize.
