Artist's Description

Kaiser Wilhelm at the Marienburg Castle in Ostpreussen in June, 1912…….The Emperor’s visit was in connection with the consecration of Virgin Mary’s Church in Marienburg. It also coincided with the end of renovation-building works on the High Castle and making it available to the visitors. Apart from the Imperial couple, the celebration was witnessed by representatives of the Joannites from Germany, Austria and England, Prince Albrecht von Hohenzollern, and the Princes of Mecklenburg and Wurttemberg……………………….. The celebration was hosted by Konrad Steibrecht, on behalf of Management of Rebuilding of the Castle. The main celebrations took place in the Castle Church and in the Middle Castle…………………….. During his reign Kaiser Wilhelm visited Marienburg a few times, but the visit in June 1902 was particularly memorable because of the glamor of events that accompanied the visit. Included in events were the soldiers of the 152nd Regiment from Marienburg dressed in Teutonic Knights’ armor.
