Artist's Description

Glenfinnan Viaduct

Glenfinnan stands at the head of Loch Sheil and is famous as the place where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised the standard at the start of the Jacobite rebellion.
From Fort William to the coastal village of Mallaig runs the West Highland Railway and one of Scotland’s most famous tourist attractions is the Jacobite express, a steam hauled train that for those not familiar with it was used in the Harry Potter films as the Hogwart express.
Glenfinnan Viaduct is one of the largest structures on the railway. It is 416 yards long and made up of 21 arches, the tallest of which is 100ft high and the viaduct is curved leading the track round the head of the River Finnan valley.
This is the Jacobite Express as it heads across the viaduct to Glenfinnan station.
