Penz And His Pets

Penz is a shy little boy of four.
His shirts and his shorts were all tore.
Yet he still wore them out the back door.

When his mom and his dad looked out to see,
where their four-year-old son just might be.
They would always look at the big tree.

Penz playtime was fun until the end.
He would play all day with his best friends
In the winter, Penz played in the den.

Winter was here and Penz couldn’t go out.
“I want my friends!” Penz said with a shout.
Mom and dad said, “Penz why do you pout?”

“When I go outside, I play with ants.”
“They crawl on my shoes and on my pants.”
“They can go outside but now I can’t.”

“They need me to move sticks and leaves too,
and make a fence around dog poo-poo.”
“While they work, I read books – old and new.”

“I give them drops of your lemonade”
“They don’t like mine, just what you made”
“I protect them from Kitty Cat raids.”

“I love them mommy can you not see.”
“My ants are outside and they need me.”
“Although they’re red they are family.”

“If color does not matter at all…
let them winter with us after fall.”
“Ants will not make trouble they are small.”

Penz ran fast to his room, he was sad.
Penz’s mom and dad thought he was real mad.
He is a good boy and won’t do bad.

So when Penz awoke to his surprise,
He could hardly believe his brown eyes.
There on his desk were all his ant guys!

Mom asked, “What are their names my dear son?”
“Paper!” he screamed, “each and every one!”
So Penz and Papers have lots of fun.
