ABOUT Under the Ten (x2) Maple Trees
The Ten of Trees is a story of a marriage and a home.

Layer 1 – I started with the Four of Wands from the Tarot, an image of two people celebrating in front of a castle under a canopy of leaves held up by the wands. I duplicated the wands to make ten and transformed the two figures into our two sons and moved them into the foreground of the painting. I then changed the castle into our colonial house in Massachusetts that we renovated in the early years of our marriage.

Layer 2 – In layer two, I added the figures from the Two of Cups. The painting shows us as getting married on the front porch of the house. However, in reality, we were married under a canopy under the 20 plus maple trees in our backyard.

Layer 3 – In layer three, I added the maple trees, the squirrel that lived in our backyard, as well as the blue jay that showed up every spring.

Layer 4 – Finally I added the Great Blue Heron and the flames that engulfed our neighborhood during a real estate bust before we moved to New Mexico in the 1996. The Blue Heron came to me in a dream during this time and I saw it as a signal that it was time to leave. This bird has long held great significance to me and I have often seen one or, in this case, had a dream about one before a significant journey.
