I was in a funny enough mood underwater when I took this picture.
I’d just seen evidence of what seemed to be ‘trawling’ ~ with a ‘bulldozed’ like surface of ‘algal’ covered staghorn corals ~ possibly the width of two tennis courts and the length of a football pitch.
I’d been reading about Ocean ‘resilience’ ~ and couldn’t help but think about a book that I know about ~ but as yet have not had time to read in its entirety ~ by Rachel Carson ~ SILENT SPRING ~ frequently referred to by Scientists as a ‘dawn in time’ that we failed to heed.
Seeing this Nudibranch almost like a ‘Lamb to the Slaughter’ ~ I thought about the potential for these animals to readily absorb and utilise the stinging power of ‘Hydroids’ which they graze upon.
These marine gastropods… probably would make good environmental pollution indicators ~ ‘natural toxicology monitors’ within the marine environment.
Similar to how terrestrial scientists find toxins within ‘frogs’ on land.
Being a Marine Scientist ~ I am frequently being discouraged from writing how I feel; I think this is bad.
Scientists need to get a handle on intuition, feelings and being emotive!
It has gone way past the time for gathering reams of quantitative data, trailing through the analysis, even sometimes ‘slanting’ the figures, to suit corporation milestones ~ producing ‘baffling’ numbers and often ‘complexities within graphs’.
People merely seek the TRUTH and ‘simple SOLUTIONS’ to a cleaner, more sustainable ‘safe’ PLANET ~ for their Children to live happily upon.
Suiting my mood and the image ~ I (and I refer to ‘I’ ~ as it’s me that feels it!) chose to call this image “DEPTH OF FLUFF!”
A play on words wrt photography as in ‘Depth Of Field’ and “fluff” ~ due to the ‘wooliness of the nudibranch’ and also an ‘expression of how much we seem to be fluffing things up Worldwide’ on this Planet ~ due to a disregard of ENVIRONMENT being NUMBER ONE ~ & ECONOMICS NUMBER TWO!
“Even SCIENCE ~ although many would disagree ~ has become somewhat wooly now!”
Written as I like it ~ irrespective of grammer ~ there – piece said! :-()
