Artist's Description

I could see this little guy coming towards me ~ I knew he was some kind of wrasse as he had a distinct 1,2,3 duck movement which is characteristic of the species.

Surprised to see that he was a ‘bird-nose’ wrasse but he wasn’t hanging around on the reef much and I just managed to get a fleeting shot over a nice matrix of hard corals.

The long nose of this particular species has evolved to be able to pries into the reef and remove prey items such as worms and crustacea. He turned out to be a she ~ with the males being olive green in colour and females like this one being more brown and black.
