Lakota

Moccasin feet shift against the earth
Weathered hands feed fire beyond the hearth
Smoke sends praise to Wanka Tanka
As mouths feast upon tatanka

Under the moon elders will share
Tales to the young ones who care
And weave rings of feather and leather
To keep nasty dreams tethered

All sleep peacefully within the tipis
Waiting for the sun the night is keeping
Soft flute song floats for all to hear it
As rain falls from the Great Spirit
