Artist's Description

Annie’s healing journey is a story from tragedy to triumph. I arrived at the home of Annie’s owner hoping to find a companion for my beloved dog Willard. There were many choices for Willard’s future wife including some very young and gorgeous English Setters. In another yard was tri -color English Setter with soulful and very sad brown eyes. Like Willard, she had the black and orange markings, most pronounced on her beautiful face.
Carin, her owner told me that Annie was the first in a line of
Russian English Setters to be imported to the United States.
Unlike American Setters, Russian Setters were only bred
For hunting and did not have the feathering of Willard,
An American English Setter. Photos of my most brilliant
co-therapist are in my portfolio and to tell Annie’s story,
more will be uploaded. Caren told me that the Russian Setters
were of such noble status that that the Russian Tsars like
Tsar Nicolas II of Russian, the last sovereign of Imperial
Russia gave this prized dogs to the English Kings as gifts
For their beauty and birding instincts. Annie was two years old and to her owner’s dismay, she stayed in a separate yard and had no interest In relating to other dogs or humans. Although, Charlie and I had not made the trip to see Carin’s puppies, a place I termed puppy heaven, we knew nothing about Annie who had to that point had received miminal contact.
Despite Carin’s efforts to place her with a loving family or try to make eye contact with this lovely little princess. Her only choice was to let her roam in a small grassy yard and
maintain her needs. Like my dog Jessie, she did not make
eye contact since she was a puppy, wag her tail or show any interest in social Interaction. That all changed when we arrived. We both looked at her from a distance not wanting to invade her “austic capsule.” To everyone’s surprise, Annie walked up to Willard and then turned around and looked at Charlie with the most soulful eyes clearly displaying her wish to bond with him first and then with me.
She still showed no interest at the stunning canine male,
Willard who also kept his distance. In a very short time
Annie and Charlie were on the driveway embracing each other as tears flowed down my cheek watching this incredibly magical and loving scenario. You could feel that she loved him after waiting two years to find her forever home and most
importantly feel the warmth of human comfort.
I took many photos of the scene. It appeared that they knew each other for a very long time. We kidded that Annie was the real Anastasia and certainly not an imposter!!
This photo was taken on my bed after she grew to love Willard. She is wearing a Tiara from a bridal shop after Willard and Annie decided to have a proper wedding. I have some wonderful photographs of their relationship and the story of her life with us as our special princess.
