Day's passage

Across a curtain of periwinkle
Float dragons fierce and firey,
Scaly tails held high.
Whispy horses’ brooms sweep the sky.
Rotund bears, sleek cats, dogs and turtles,
Play in childish delight.
Sunset brushes color on curves and edges.
Reds, blues, purples, yellows and oranges.
Night’s indigo blanket swiftly follows.
Silver light breaks the dark,
Then slowly night is nudged aside,
Dawn’s new light brings a new parade.
Ladies in swirling grey skirts,
Dance across the sky,
More and more join in until,
Great battleships of dark grey steam,
The stillness broken by loud salvos,
Bright swords pierce the gloom.
The parched earth receives sustenance.
Slowly quiet comes.
The earth rests, the sky clears,
Sunset approches.
