Artist's Description

Coffee Yard formerly Langton Lane

This medieval common lane is nearly 220 feet long and has three tunnels,a yard and a ginnel. There is a devil at the entrance to the passage wa. You find the Red Devil on the left of the Stonegate entrance marking the start of Coffee Yard, in which York’s first newspaper (with the aid of a printer’s devil) was printed in 1719.
