Artist's Description

This is the pile of our local farmers’ milo (maize) that wouldn’t fit into the elevator at harvest last fall, and was piled on the ground until room was available, which is just now going on.

For those that may not know, milo is a grain used mainly in feed for cattle, though it does have other purposes. The growing season is through the summer, with harvest in the fall. One of the prettiest farm crops there is, it has a green stalk with a very large grain head. As it ripens, it turns reddish orange. A field of good milo is absolutely beautiful.
