Joseph Canyon is in Wallowa County Oregon, named after the Nez Perce Chief Joseph. The Nez Perce wintered here, at the bottom of the canyon. Wallowa County is in the extreme NE corner of Oregon, adjoining Washington and Idaho. It is a wonderland, with something like 32 mountains over 9000 feet, and not a stop light anywhere.
As is so often the case in our history, the native population was run out, and then the area was named after them.
