The Gherkin Info from Wikipedia.
30 St Mary Axe, also known as the Gherkin and the Swiss Re Building, is a skyscraper in London’s main financial district, the City of London, completed in December 2003 and opened at the end of May 2004.2 With 40 floors, the tower is 180 metres (591 ft) tall, and stands on the former site of the Baltic Exchange building, which was severely damaged on 10 April 1992 by the explosion of a bomb placed by the Provisional IRA.
After the plans to build the Millennium Tower were dropped, the current building was designed by Norman Foster, his then business partner Ken Shuttleworth and Arup engineers, and was erected by Skanska in 2001–2003.

Some people who don’t know London have asked is this REAL? Well, strange as it may seem, there are wierd shaped buildings popping up all over the place in London, but the Gherkin {AKA Swiss Re Building} has been here for some time now and I’m beginning to like it:-) LOL
love these buildings, the old with the new is wonderful
Thank you very much Debbie. It’s that contrast between old and new that I find enchanting. The old value systems giving way to the knew. For hundreds of years the biggest buildings in the UK were Churches and they dominated the skyline of most cities, but now they’ve been superceeded by finance institutions and corportations, Could this be the new Religion?
Wonderful point of view Don …
Hey there Tom, thanks very much mate. Don.
amazing how they are allowed to destroy a beautiful city!

What a contrast in buildings, old versus new – and I love. Love the vibrant red also.
