Artist's Description

The Palm House Kew Gardens London UK
Camera Nikon D700 with 24-120mm Lense.

The Palm House was built between 1844-48, designes by Decimus Burton and built by Richard Turner. It is reputed to be the world’s most notable surviving Victorian glass and iron structure. The design came from shipbuilding and the is almost like an upturned hull of a great oceangoing ship. It was completely dismantled and rebuilt between 1984-89 and re-opened in November 1990 by HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.

It was built to house the exotic palms in the Victorian era. Now serves as a conservation and preservation / research base for some of the world’s most endangered species of palm.
