Artist's Description

The Thistle, the Cross and the Bible, al remind me of Scotland and growing up in Edinburgh. Thistles abounded in wasteland and disused railway lines where we used to play, the cross reminds me of St Mary’s Cathedral, our local parish Church and the Bible reminds me of the great unread book in my home. Why was owning one so important to families, and why did no one ever read it? Once I began to read, and it was a bit like walking through thistles with no shoes on, then I read about Jesus and his death, and it was like a great paper-weight had crushed me. I didn’t like the Bible, then years later at a little group in Plymouth, suddenly it was a if a veil had been lifted from my eyes, and the Word of God began to speak into my heart, it spoke to me about things I was going through, and how God seemed to know how to communicate with my heart through His Word. Now I see the Bible as a lifeline, a communication tool much like a telephone or radio. When I read, I’m acutely aware that I’m communicating with the Crator and He’s speaking to me. It’s no longer like walking through thistles, but lying down bestide still waters and it restores my soul.
