Artist's Description

Rememberance Day: Love the Creator. On the 11th Day of the 11th Month at the 11th hour each year, we remember all those who’ve given their lives in service to their country in times of war. We think about their personal sacrifice and the loss to the nation of the young lives. Families remember those who’ve died tragically, and most often needlessly.

Will the Nations ever learn to live in peace? Somehow, though I long for it, I doubt it. Will we ever learn the lessons of histroy? Again, though I think we should, and every right thinking person also would agree that wars accomplish very little, I don’t think the Nations will ever stop competing and fighting.

There are many good reasons for going to war, but in the end, it’s the poor, the young and the brave who have to pay the price for policitical failures.

This year let us remember the one true and great sacrifice, the life of someone sinless, perfect, holy, good, true, noble and brave. Someone who only ever cared for people, and tried to show them a better way to live. Who spoke the most profound words ever to fall from the lips of a human being (though He was God in human flesh): He said, "Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who despitefully use you, forgive as you have been forgiven and deeply from your heart, be generous, be kind, be faithful, be loyal, be true to your word.

He told us not to love the world or the things in this world, though there is beauty all around us, the reason he said this is because those who come to know Him as Lord and Saviour, know that this world is not their true home, and that a better place is reserved for them. However, He also gave us stewardship of the earth, to take care of it, to tend it, to look after it and preserve it as be we can. We appreciate the creation so much sometimes that we forget to appreciate the Creator.

It’s a bit like the day I realised my children were loosing their love and respect for me. One day after being greeted by my children after work, they always jumped on me and wanted me to play with them, I gave them a gift, a computer game. The next day I came home from work, they were so enthralled with the game that they didn’t come running to greet their daddy, they didn’t even acknowledge that I was in the room, the game had so captivated them. I was hurt, I wanted their love, their attention and their company. So I turned the game console off.

We sometime get so captivated and enthralled and wrapped up in the gift our Father God has given to us, that we forget the one who made it possible for us to enjoy it, and sometime we even abuse the gift. He gave us life and everything that’s precious to us. He’s right here with us all the time, but do we run to Him and throw our arms around Him telling Him how much we love Him? No, we continue to be entertained and enthralled by His precious gift.

You know He’s longing for us to acknowledge Him. Our Heavenly Father cares so much for us that He made it possible for us to be forgiven for turning our backs on Him. He gave us something far more precious and loved than we can ever imagine. How much it must have cost Him to lavish His love upon us again. Our Heavenly Father sent His One and Only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to die in a battle for our souls. He wanted us to be with Him forever and that desire, that love, that peace cost Him the life of His Son.

This Remembrance Day: Let us turn again in love to our Heavenly Father, let us open up our hearts to Him, let us acknowledge that He is the Creator and has given us all things to richly enjoy. Let us repent of our deeper love for the creation rather than the Creator. Once we do that we can sit down and enjoy it with Him together forever.

After my kids had given me cuddles, I turned the game console on again. I told them, always remember, it was daddy who paid the price for that console, and I love you more than that game, so when I come home from work, please don’t stop loving me.

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your might. This is the first and greatest command.” Jesus Christ.
