Artist's Description

An illustration to the brilliant story called “Thomas the Rhymer” by Paul Andruss
http://www.jackhughesbooks.com

steel pen on a A3 Newton & Windsor paper

this is the fragment of text by Paul Andruss:

“Jack did not remember falling asleep but he knew he had as soon as he saw the old woman approach. She looked exactly the same when she came up to Dan, like a madwoman in old clothes and with hair hanging long and loose like dirty string.

“There you are Cherie,” she said, using the same words she spoke to his brother.

As she reached for Jack she shimmered for a moment, like she was going out of focus, and in her place stood the beautiful lady, her long golden hair catching the red and bloody sunset in a halo of fire. Then, just like she had with Dan, she took Jack’s hand. The moment her fingers closed around his, a roar filled Jack’s ears. It was like the sound of cars on a busy road, and he knew they had vanished from sight. "
