Now sadly dismantled, B of the Bang was Britain’s tallest sculpture and was commissioned to mark the success of the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
Located next to the City of Manchester Stadium, in Beswick, Manchester, the statue was designed by Thomas Heatherwick and unveiled by sprinter Linford Christie in 2005. It takes its name from a quotation of Christie in which he said that he started his races not merely at the ‘bang’ of the starting pistol, but at ‘The B of the Bang’

Interesting, at first glance I’m sorry to say I tought it may have been a small cordoline from thumbprint…..ooopsss….bright red and creeping away, lol. Thanks for sharing.
cool photo
I have tried many times to capture a shot of the Bang. Always failed miserably. You seem to have pulled it off here though. It is a shame that some people just didn’t get it, Heatherwick is a seriously talented artist/engineer, it is a shame this couldn’t have stayed……………..
NICE!!! (:
Brilliant shot. Agree with Danimal11, thought it was a plant seed head or something.
insane!
