Upon which horizons would your eyes turn if only they had the courage to see their deepest desires? To strike away from that which has become ingrained and so familiar, the world that sits in your heart wrapped in the reverence which you bestow it. Would they gaze upon the azure waters of an uncharted and untameable sea, looking for the glory of new discoveries, the truest determination of your courage and strength? Or would they watch to the mountains and precipices of insurmountable odds, and wish for you to strive to the heights above the valley, to reside with the eagles?

Or would you avert your gaze, as I do, and cast your eyes down, content to search amongst the flotsam and jetsam, hoping to find a pearl thrown up from the sea; maybe to write your name in the sand, immortalising yourself for a day, until it is inevitably washed away. There are many names on this beach, the sea will claim them all eventually, and all will pass without testimony to their being. There are not so many pearls.

Today I sit here with you; listening to the wind whisper the names of those who challenged the sea, the echoes of those who strove for the lair of the eagle. But tomorrow, tomorrow I shall be gone, my name no longer carved in sand. Tomorrow I will lift my name into the wind for you to hear as I sail for new destinations; carry it above the clouds as I struggle to great heights.

It is not important how high I climb or if I fall; it is not important which land I reach or if I drown; only that the sea will not wash my name from the shore.
