Artist's Description

This moody photo with ominous grey clouds, taken from Johnston’s Ridge, shows the destructive force of Mount St Helens’ 1980 eruption. Downed evergreen trunks litter the mountainsides where they were exposed to the brunt of the volcanic blast, while even in more sheltered areas dead gray trunks stand as reminders of the beautiful forest that once covered these cascade mountains. Throughout the scene nature recovers in vigorous shades of green with a new generation of young trees scattered sparsely on the slopes.
