This Too Shall Pass

Dark, winding tunnel –
Sharp protrusions at all levels
Reaching to grab pieces of flesh.
Air of misty darkness
Clinging to skin in invisible layers,
Weighing me down without definition.
So tired I am
Of these never ending passages
Where “this too shall pass”
Is a brightly offered idiom
Carrying the weight of untruth
In its transparent delivery
From seemingly well meaning people
Who distance themselves
By the tidbits they speak.
And still, the twisting curves
Beckon us forward
With veiled promises
That eventually
I will enter the light.

This Too Shall Pass
