Cinnamon Teal is a strikingly plumaged western species seldom seen east of the Mississippi River. This species nests in freshwater marshes and onlakes at many elevations, usually west of the prairie parkland habitats of most dabbling ducks.
It winters in southern Texas and California, mostly in coastal freshwater habitats, and in Mexico. Hybrids with Blue-winged Teals are reported.
VOICE MALE: a grating, mechanical-sounding rattle and a shoveler-like chuk. FEMALE: a weak quack similar to Blue-winged.
