Sensibilia III. 'Twas The Night Before Christmas

‘Twas the night before Christmas
All around was quiet
I sat eating peanuts
Planning my diet

Lighting a cigarette
I pondered my station
Composing an epithet
With a yuletide libation

Good health to God
And to Jesus and Mary
Chin chin! to Santa
Cheers! The Christmas Fairy

Is that all there is this night;
Eating and drinking?
Faith, hope and charity
So stuffed full they’re sinking

The Christmas message lost
To ‘The Boxing Day sale!’
Spend more at any cost
No heed to the passion tale

And so the next morrow
The presents discarded
Congratulate our gluttony
We morally retarded

We ate and we spent
We drank in delight
But did we spare thought
For fighting the Good fight?
