Look for me where I should not be

Pieces of me
tangled
with pieces of you.
The smell of your skin
still lingers
on mine.

I close my eyes
and I can still
hear you.
I feel
your hot breath
on me.

One time.
And I said
never again.
But now I need you
to find your way
back to me.

Listen.
Follow my heartbeat.
Look for me in the places
that I should not be.
I need you
to exist with me again.
Quietly.

We lay in the bathtub.
Drops of water through our fingers.
Petals from the roses
you gave me
danced around our nakedness.
The heat from our bodies
so close together,
rising from the water’s surface.

I was seduced
by how well you knew me.
By how well you knew
my body.
And oddly,
I felt comforted by it.

Now I walk naked,
through the frozen snow.
Searching for you.
I need you to warm me.

Take the bitter
from my mouth,
and drink me sweet again.
My mind races with fever.
The black night is endless.

The cold air
rushes against my body.
And I gasp.
Slowly,
I close my eyes
and give in to sleep.
Waiting for you
to find me.

Look for me where I should not be
