Artist's Description

Digital painting created using Corel Painter v X for a WWF stamp issue for Tokelau. This piece has an interesting backstory. These critters only come ashore very rarely, so if seen on the beach, they are usually dead and have been washed up, as was the case with the one in the reference photo I based this painting on. I ‘brought it back to life’ by replacing the ‘dead’ head with a live one, which was lifted up off the sand, not half buried in it. I also added some typical Tokelauan landscape in the background which wasn’t in the ref photo. So this is a good example of why the WWF use artwork for their stamps and not photos.
