Artist's Description

One of the images from my “Yosemite By Night” composition.

This shot was taken from outside the Wawona Tunnel on the Highway 41 entrance to Yosemite Valley at about 10:30pm.

I had about three attempts before getting this shot with the previous efforts being spoiled by vehicles driving up behind me with high beams on which resulted in the closest treetops in the foreground being overexposed and the rest of the image underexposed.

It was great to be able to capture almost all of the key icons of Yosemite Valley in one shot at night – El Capitan on the left and the three Cathedral Rocks on the right with Bridalveil Falls in front of them. Sentinel Rock, Glacier Point and Half Dome can also be seen further down the valley in the background.

Canon EOS 20D, EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM, Focal Length: 22mm, Aperture: f/4.5, Exposure: 7.5 min, ISO100
