Artist's Description

The hummingbird moth (Hemaris thisby) is often mistaken for a bird. These large moths are slightly smaller than the Hummingbird and behave much like them. They hover briefly, sipping nectar for only a few seconds before darting off to a new flower.

I had the pleasure of photographing this moth in Ottawa, ON Canada in August of 2012.
