Artist's Description

The Virginia Rail (Rallus limicola) is a wetland bird that is secretive and fairly common. More often, glimpsed prowling about dense vegetation or scampering through clearings is the norm with these birds, until this day in particular when I spotted this adult swimming about. At first towards me, then right in front of me from right to left and not more than 25 feet away. My stratagem? At all times remain quiet and as still as possible. ;-)
