Artist's Description

This Barred Owl photographed in the Brighton, ON (Canada) region was very active in the afternoon of a cold December day. The natural reaction of a nictitating membrane makes the owl appear to have blue eyes. This membrane is a protective lens utilized to prevent injuries to their eyes when fetching or dismembering their prey (as in this photo). The Barred Owls eyes are actually dark brown and black.

Photo taken with a Canon EOS 20D, a 70-200mm lens and a 1.4t.c.

Image is slightly cropped and treated in DPP
