Featured in Alphabet Soup – January 13, 2009

Plant: Aromatic perennial 20-100cm tall from spreading rootstock.
Leaves: feathery, 3-15cm long, finely divided, often gray-hairy.
Flowerheads: white to pink, 5-6mm across, 4-6 short strap-like florets around 10-30 yellow tubular florets above overlapping, dark-edged bracts; flowerheads in flat-topped clusters 2-10cm wide.
Blooms: June to September
Fruits: hairless, flattened, seed-like achenes.
Habitat: highly variable, often disturbed sites.
Distribution: native throughout North America and around the world.
