My first introduction to Encaustic Art was by a French Canadian in 1985. I was fascinated by the technique of painting with an iron. In 1996 while studying for City and Guilds Patchwork and Quilting (part 1 and 2) ,I decided to try out the technique as part of my experimental use of mixed media. I continued as a textile artist with encaustic as a hobby. Due to demand, Encaustic Art has become my main work. I do dabble in other mixed media art and I also make encaustic earrings.
I was born in the North of England and spent a lot of my childhood in the Yorkshire Dales with the moors stretching as far as you can see with the patchwork fields surrounded by stone walls. I now live between Dartmoor and Exmoor and am once again surrounded by moors. I can often get lost while painting a landscape, wondering what might be around the corner or over the distant hill. I have had good feed back from people who have been in hospital and received one of my cards as they too are able to look and imagine what might be over the hill thus giving them a little break from the hospital bed. I now occasionally do landscapes of actual places which is much more challenging.
