A graduate of Newcastle upon Tyne University, with Honours in Electrical Engineering and Electronics. After 3 years in industrial research and development on thermal imaging systems returned to full-time education. Completed course at the Scottish Congregational College, Edinburgh, with Distinction. After 19 years service with Congregational Union of Scotland again returned to full-time education. Completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education at Jordanhill Campus of Strathclyde University, qualifying to teach religious and Moral Education and Mathematics. Taught as sole teacher of RME at Balfron High School for 16 years before returning to pastoral ministry at Hamilton United Reformed Church on a part-time basis until retiring in March 2014. The Hamilton congregation has direct links with the missionary explorer David Livingstone.
Remains a keen photographer and now an avid home-based cheese maker.
