Emboldened, Entrapment and The Dressing Gown Cord.

Mary was oscillating between great indignation and indifference. Her good, close and intimate friend had fallen in love with her husband and Mary was understandably devastated. She was considering suicide and described to Julian how you could ‘fall’ into the dressing gown cord and quietly strangle oneself to death. Her close and intimate friend was also contemplating suicide and if the girls went, then Edgar would consider following, but someone had to stay behind to look after the children. He would sacrifice his death in order to carry on living, if needs must.

Most of the small country town had, by now, heard of this unresolved love affair and commiserated with Mary at petrol bowser’s and supermarket check outs. Mary was not enjoying the extra attention, despite wearing purple high heeled shoes as she plucked the bag of white flour from the shelf and placed it wearily in the trolley on top of the plain biscuits. Life went on, irregardless of despair, fear or anxiety and she had to put on a show of survival.

The children at school were vying for the various Edward De Bono hats.
