Artist's Description

St Ninian’s Isle lies off the west coast of Shetland in the South End of the mainland.

It’s joined to the mainland by a much-photographed tombolo which creates a beautiful double beach.

The St Ninian’s Isle treasure was discovered here in 1958 and is currently on display in Edinburgh’s Scottish Museum. The silver bowls, thimbles, trinkets and other articles are believed to date from 800 AD.

This view is from the Isle looking back towards Bigton Farm on the mainland.
