Artist's Description

“Phet” is an Indochinese Tiger, orphaned when poachers killed her mother.

One-hundred years ago there were over 100,000 wild tigers. Three species, the Caspian, Javan, and Bali tigers became extinct in the last 75 years, and less than 5,000 wild tigers survive today. This includes an estimated 700-1,200 Indochinese tigers left in the wild. Although extremely rare, some still survive in Laos, where Phet was photographed near Luang Prabang.
