What I was trying to show here was how topsy-turvy the seemingly mundane really is. Behind a perfectly manicured home and garden could be a world turned on its ear. We work hard on our outside appearances. Too hard sometimes. And to me, keeping up appearances can be too much like keeping up with the Joneses; it lends itself to phoniness, a lack of individuality, and sometimes a disdain for the less than perfect. That’s the way people are in my neighborhood, anyway. It irks me that so many of them can’t just live and let live.
