Artist's Description

How much trouble should one go to for a picture? I mean you could become obsessed! Its a risk you take. And then, is there life after obsession?

Anyway, for this picture I made the ultimate effort. I ventured into the world of woman’s designer fashion. Not having a background in design of any kind was not a deterrent. I pressed on regardless with the vision of the ultimate in cool (minimal coverage so only good in hot weather) The ideal in woman’s futuristic wear. Granted its not the sort of costume you could wear every day and its totally impractical but that’s the appeal.

The material was purchased from a DIY shop. It was designed as an energy saving device to be stuck behind radiators . The theory is it is supposed to reflect the heat back rather than allowing it to become absorbed in the wall. I never found out if it worked as I had other ideas in mind. It had lots of small squares which were perfect for cutting along with a scissors and it was so easy to shape. Beginners luck no doubt but the costume you see is an original designed by me! The silver hair however was purchased separately.

That’s just the costume! The background totally took over the whole of the through-lounge. It was a 9 ft. wide roll of paper held in place by a rig that I made from wood. Then there was the studio lighting and the boon arm, but I won’t go into that. All this for a picture…..but it was fun in the making. Hope you enjoy.
