Registan Square, Samarkand Uzbekistan. One of three Madrassah that comprise this ’high education institution (the Muslim translation of Madrassah) is decorated with bright ornaments of glazed brick. The walls and towers are covered with majolica of various patterns of climber flowers and quotations from Koran in Arabic.
In architectural terms the Sher-Dor Madrassah is a square building with inner yard, with khudjras (cells) for students and two rooms for classes. The Madrassah was considered the most modern building of it’s time, (17th Century) because the latest architectural innovations were used in it’s construction.
