Artist's Description

When summer fades and the days grow shorter, Asters take the stage brightening the landscape in Puslinch Ontario Canada

About the Aster:
Composite family – asteraceae
Large rose purple flowers with numerous rays, clasping leaves, rough stem and the leaves smell a bit spicy when crushed
They flower in late summer and autumn
They come in white or blue/violet, 7 or more parts petals
The ray flowers are numerous, 50-75 and the disc flowers are 50-100 yellow becoming purple
Lower leaves usually disappear by flowering time and they are toothless
The plant height is 23-59 inches and the stem is bristly, hairy and stout
They are found in fields, open areas and woodlands and are native to Ontario
