Artist's Description

This shot of a World War I memorial was taken in the little Victorian town of Nhill, on the Western Highway between Melbourne and Adelaide.

The first frame I shot was a deep vertical, taking in the whole statue with the names of those soldiers who had given their lives. Then, as I stepped back, I realised the true shot was a horizontal frame, taking in that Western District farming sky, as well as the palm trees that seemed to form a memorial arch for the marble figure of the lone Digger in his slouch hat, keeping eternal watch …

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F11, 1/500 sec, ISO 200, focal length 108mm.
