Artist's Description

Is that a Venus fly trap – or a Venus try flap?

Either way, it’s a tongue-twister, but yes, it WAS a Venus fly trap, sitting alongside the cactii, even though I didn’t know it at the time!

Sometimes a random shot brings an unforseen perspective that you didn’t notice when you hit the shutter – and this is the perfect example.

I am a keen gardener and will always stop and browse plants and flowers, but I just hit the shutter on the run when I walked past this temporary stall in Melbourne in a hurry about five weeks ago (February 2010). You know what I mean – interesting colours, frame the shot, hit the shutter and hurry on.

But it was a few days later, when one of my kids pointed out that the little hand-written labels in this image proclaimed “Venus Fly Trap” that I realised it was a missed opportunity to get a close-up shot of a plant I’ve never seen before.

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F8, 1/125 sec, ISO 400, focal length 125mm.
