Artist's Description

If this image makes you scratch your head because it’s slightly (but not entirely) familiar, then I’ve chosen my angle well.

This is simply a tyre wall, comprising rows of old tyres chained together and spray-painted orange and white, that are used as safety barriers at the Australian Formula One Grand Prix at Albert Park.

I shot this image three days before the race in 2008. Because Albert Park is a public-access road, I was able to take a series of shots just before it was closed to everyday drivers.

The deeply-defined zig-zag shadow across the centre of the tyres actually comes from the top of the metal fence nearby.

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 70-300mm lens. F11, 1/500 sec, ISO 200, focal length 85mm.
