Artist's Description

This sight literally stopped me in my tracks – and it’s funny what a difference three hours can make. We walked past this open-air bar in broad daylight in Kuala Lumpur and I didn’t give it a second glance.

Then we walked past in the opposite direction at dusk, and there was a dramatic difference. Several metres away, on the opposite side of a six-lane street, the neon signs had just been switched on.

That effect, coupled with the bar’s illuminated sign as well as narrow neon strips in the distance transformed an ordinary sight into one with new perspective.

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F 4.5, 1/20 sec, ISO 800, focal length 58mm.

Featured in LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS, February 2010.

Featured in ’60s GLORY, March 2010.
