Artist's Description

This slow-motion street performer, clad in silver from head to toe, was plying his trade at a busy intersection in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, when we walked past.

As you can see from the street lights, it was late in the evening, literally a few minutes before dusk turned to darkness. I was several metres away from him, but I shot a tight frame to capture the jaunty angle of his headgear.

It was a hot evening and he must have really felt the humidity, with all that greasepaint on his face and arms and with that silver overcoat over his clothes.

I was lucky with this angle, because I was able to capture the motion of passers-by in the background. Also, the performer’s forehead shows the reflection of the amber glow from street lighting and shop lights.

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F6.7, 1/60 sec, ISO 800, focal length 125mm.

Featured in HATS AND HAT BOXES, February 2010.

Featured in STATUES AND SUCH, February 2010.

Featured in LIFE IN THE CITY, SUBURBS OR BUSH, September 2011.
