Artist's Description

These two Elvis impersonators put on a short, impromptu performance at the Royal Melbourne Show on a cold, wet, windy afternoon in August 2006. The rain had just stopped but the clouds were still patchy when I heard brass instruments in the distance.

I had to sprint to get this shot of these “caped crusaders” because I wanted an angle that would include the giant ferris wheel and the huge carousel. I just had time to shoot one frame and you can actually see blurry figures of some of the intrepid carousel riders in mid-air on the right-hand side of the frame.

The reflection in the tuba, too, is a handy bonus. And if you look really carefully, you can see the fake rhinestones on the broad white belts of both performers.

I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my work in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F8, 1/125 sec, ISO 200, focal length 50mm.

Featured in GOOD NEWS GROUP, August 2009.
